It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we report the death of Prof. Gaetano Crepaldi, on January 24 at the age of 93, in his home in Padova, Italy.

He was considered a father of Geriatric Medicine in Italy and a mentor for many geriatricians at a national and international level. He founded and was the first President of the European Interdisciplinary Council on Aging and was a strong supporter of the interdisciplinary approach to geriatric care, long before it became a popular concept.

His rich legacy in geriatric research and clinical care will be long lasting through those many he mentored and the numerous initiatives he started and are still in the field.
